Last week the Triptease team visited ITB in Berlin. We blogged about what we uncovered at the world's leading trade show and today we thought we'd bring you an update of where we stayed: The Generator Hostel, Berlin Mitte.

We love the Generator brand. Over the years we've seen it grow and the new property situated slap bang in the middle of Berlin could be mistaken for a hotel. The trendy bar out front serves a delicious Flying Turtle ale and based on our experience on the final night plays great music. Once you're into the courtyard, a quick visit to the reception gets you sorted for your stay in Berlin. You can rent bikes, order taxis, pick up a map and speak to the friendly reception staff about what to do in Berlin. You may have to visit the reception a few times, though. Our key cards stopped working every time we left the building, but they were always replaced with a smile.

The rooms were smart, clean and functional. One Tripteaser did have to change their room changed due a smell we can't describe in words, but again that was done quickly and simply enough. Earplugs would be somewhat advised for the light sleepers amongst you, but once you awaken from your slumber you'll be greeted by a great breakfast with sugar puffs. What a result! Over breakfast people watching is well advised - there's no one type of traveller at the Generator - from people on business to first time backpackers, you'll meet a patchwork of guests from all over the world.

In all, it was a great experience and also great value. All helped by booking direct, of course.
